Approach

Hi, I am Maya. I photograph weddings in El Paso and Las Cruces, and I travel for the ones further afield. What I am after is not a run of staged photographs. We will absolutely get the ones you are picturing, but the day is really made of the ceremony you cry through, the dance floor that gets out of hand, and the small ridiculous moments in between.

I shoot as a lifestyle photographer, which means I will give you direction when you want it, so you never have to wonder what your hands are doing, and then step back and let the rest happen. On the wedding day itself I mostly stay out of the way. Beyond family photographs and your formals, I would rather be the person who catches the moment than the one who interrupts it. And I do not forget your guests, because they are part of the story too.

I have photographed more than a hundred weddings, most of them on my own. My editing is a clean lifestyle style, speckled with silky black and whites, and I keep to it rather than chasing whatever is in fashion. Sneak peeks land within 72 hours, and full wedding galleries within six to eight weeks. I have never missed that window.

Away from work: born in California, raised in Mexico City, and since then New Zealand and Cape Verde. Fluent in Spanish, rusty in Portuguese. Married, with kids. I will dance cumbia, merengue or bachata given the smallest excuse, and three knee injuries are the reason I am behind a camera instead of on a tennis court.
